The Black Squirrel Vineyard and Winery is a small certified organic operation that focuses on quality grape and aronia berry production. The Black Squirrel Vineyard and Winery was established in 2002 with the testing of 18 cultivars for organic production. In 2011, 8 cultivars had proven suitable candidates for organic management and spray programs. Our vineyard consists of 7 1/2 acres of grapes and 7 acres of aronia berries.
Black Squirrel Vineyard has been certified organic since 2002. Being certified means that the land and operations have been inspected and comply with the NOP (National Organic Practices) rules and regulations. Our produce can carry the Organic label because we follow an ethical and moral obligation as a grower to grow a nutritional food that has not been treated with synthetic irradiation or genetically engineered materials.
Charlie and Jolene live on the home place that has been in the family for over 100 years. A 10th generation of the William Bassetts family that came over on the ship “Fortune” with Pilgrims, Charlie and Jolene (Tiarks) live on his great grandfather’s farm just ½ mile south of Quick, Iowa.
